An important thing to remember is that we all come to Brownies to be friends, we are all equal and all joined Brownies to have fun. A little while ago one of our Brownies had been bullied at school, we talked about this at our meeting and all agreed that we definitely did not want anything like this to happen at Brownies. This is our anti-bullying policy – this was written by the Brownies in 1st Crown Wood and tells you what they feel are not acceptable types of behaviour and how to get help if something should ever happen to you.

We will not tolerate any type of

• physical bullying such as hitting, kicking, pinching
• verbal bullying calling names, whispering, spreading stories/rumours
• emotional bullying – ganging up on someone, tormenting or ridiculing

If you feel you are being bullied (at Brownies) you should

• Tell someone immediately – a friend, your parents, a Guider or one of our Young Leaders – they will help you; you are not telling tales, you are taking appropriate action to stop something happening that is wrong!
• Try to ignore the person who is bullying you
• Try not to show that you are angry or upset
• Don’t fight back if you can help it

What your Guiders will do to help you

• Listen to what you have to say
• Be open, honest and firm in dealing with the situation
• Discuss fully to find out the facts and take appropriate action
• Inform the people who need to know – i.e. your parents
